Harkenrider Center Basement Expansion Project
The Harkenrider Senior Activity Center has served as a vibrant hub for community activities and programming since 2018. What began as the Harkenrider Center Basement Expansion Project—a vision to transform the unfinished 4,000-square-foot lower level into a dynamic new space—has now been successfully completed as of January 2025.
Working closely with Hacker Architects during the design and planning phase, the City of Hermiston developed a space that is both functional and welcoming, capable of supporting a wide range of gatherings, events, and meetings.
Formerly the basement expansion, this area is now known as the Garden Level of the Harkenrider Senior Activity Center and is open for reservations for community use. The Garden Level significantly enhances the center’s capacity to host larger events and programs and supports expanded offerings for residents of all ages.
Features and amenities include:
- Capacity for up to 150 guests
- Flexible open layout adaptable to a variety of event types
- Large screen display with built-in audio/visual capabilities
- Kitchenette area for light food and beverage service with large island
- Two large refrigerators and one small refrigerator for renter use
- 6’ round tables and chairs provided (up to 150 chairs)
- Access to the outdoor garden patio and green space west of the building
- Climate-controlled for year-round use
- Ideal for receptions, baby showers, birthday parties, meetings, and community gatherings
