Grand Opening Celebration for Harkenrider Senior Activity Center Basement

The Harkenrider Senior Activity Center is expanding! The community is invited to celebrate the completion of the center’s basement renovation with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at 255 NE Second St.
This newly finished space marks the latest enhancement to the center, which has served as a hub for Hermiston’s senior community since its grand opening in 2018. With the addition of the 4,000-square-foot daylight basement, the center now offers expanded opportunities for events, meetings, and programs designed to enrich the lives of seniors and the entire Hermiston community.
The open house will feature guided tours of the renovated space, refreshments, and an opportunity to learn about Hermiston’s newest park project at the Cimmaron Recreation Area on Northeast Eighth Place. The Parks and Recreation team will be on hand to gather input on a potential name for the park.
Operated in partnership by the Hermiston Senior Center Board of Directors and Hermiston Parks and Recreation, the Harkenrider Senior Activity Center continues to be a vital resource for the region. With the completion of this basement expansion, the facility now spans 11,000 square feet — doubling the size of its previous location on West Orchard Avenue.
