Hermiston Library Grand Re-Opening Coming Oct. 10

The Hermiston Library features new light and art displays

The Hermiston Public Library is inviting the community to the grand reopening of its newly renovated facility on Friday, October 10, at 10 a.m. at 235 E Gladys Avenue.

The renovation, which took just under a year to complete, was guided by four key goals:

  • Improving safety and accessibility for all visitors
  • Creating dedicated spaces for teens and children
  • Developing new study rooms and a Makers Space
  • Adding natural light with expanded windows throughout the building

Highlights of the renovation include a new Makers Space equipped with 3-D printing, a heat press, vinyl cutter, and engraving tools; expanded children’s and teen areas; and upgraded study rooms to meet the growing demand for academic and personal workspaces.

The grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting, guided tours, treats, and giveaways. Visitors will also enjoy new art installations, a mobile of butterflies, a giant Lite-Brite in the children’s area and artwork by renowned local artists Hiroko Cannon and Arlen Clark.

“We can’t wait to welcome the community back into their renovated library,” said Mark Rose, Director of the Hermiston Public Library. “Every aspect of this project was designed with Hermiston’s future in mind — from creating inspiring spaces for kids and teens, to providing innovative technology in the Makers Space. This is a library built for tomorrow, and we’re thrilled to share it this month.”

The renovation was paid for through Enterprise Zone funds committed by both the City of Hermiston and Umatilla County, supported by projects from Lamb Weston and Amazon currently underway.
