Sanitary Disposal Press Release - March 24, 2026

Circular Action Alliance (CAA), in partnership with Sanitary Disposal, is proud to announce the opening of a new RecycleOn Center in Hermiston. The new center is part of Oregon’s modernized recycling system, launched July 1, 2025, that aims to provide consistent, accessible recycling opportunities statewide.

RecycleOn Centers give Oregonians a convenient, no-cost place to drop off eight materials that are not accepted in home or work recycling bins, making it easier to recycle more items responsibly. Thanks to Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act, the brands and companies that make paper and packaging fund these centers, helping ensure more of the items they sell are recycled.

The new center is part of a network of RecycleOn Centers planned across Oregon, ensuring every county has access to expanded recycling services. The centers will help reduce contamination in recycling, protect operations and workers at recycling facilities and ensure more materials are properly recycled at Responsible End Markets.

“RecycleOn Centers provide Oregonians with the opportunity to recycle more items than ever before,” said Kim Holmes, Oregon Executive Director at CAA. “By offering dedicated drop-off locations, we can support local communities, improve recycling outcomes and create a more circular system for the state.”

Accepted Items RecycleOn Centers accept eight new items not currently collected for recycling, including empty and dry:

  • Plastic bags and other stretchy plastics, like the wrapping around toilet paper
  • Plastic lids, from containers like yogurt, salsa and sour cream
  • Plastic caps, from containers like soymilk, glass jars and broth containers
  • Plastic package handles, such as six-pack drink carriers
  • Plastic buckets and pails
  • Shredded paper in a paper bag that is stapled or rolled shut
  • Aluminum foil and trays
  • Glass bottles and jars

“This center plays an important role in supporting sustainable practices across Umatilla County and surrounding communities,” said Kevin Miracle, District Manager at Sanitary Disposal. “By using the RecycleOn Center, residents are directly contributing to a cleaner community and a more efficient recycling system.”

This partnership delivers real, tangible benefits to the community by improving access to local recycling, while supporting long-term environmental and economic sustainability for the region.
