City Mourns Passing of Former City Manager Ed Brookshier

Former City Manager Ed Brookshier

The City of Hermiston is saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Brookshier, who served as City Manager for more than two decades and guided the community through tremendous growth and transition from 1991 to 2014.

Ed's tireless work and commitment to development continues to fuel the regional economy. His work on the Regional Water System now supports foundational businesses which have invested more than $6 billion in the community. Additionally, his leadership in attracting the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Corteva Agrisciences, and other employers to Hermiston has provided thousands of local workers with jobs to support their families.

His work on other community assets also continues to support countless area residents every day. His commitment to the 50-year community goal of moving the fairgrounds out of downtown was fundamental in the development of the Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center, where events like the Umatilla County Fair and Farm-City Pro Rodeo have expanded their impact serving the community. The Hermiston Family Aquatic Center boasts thousands of youth who received swimming lessons and young adults who got their first jobs thanks to Ed's ability to take the community's vision and make it a reality. And through his work helping to develop the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center, residents have greater opportunity to access career enhancing education.

He accomplished these tasks while efficiently leading the City as an organization as the community’s growth increased demands for services. Through Ed's guidance, entire departments including Parks & Recreation and Hermiston Energy Services were created and continue to serve families today.

We appreciate everything Ed did to make Hermiston a place where life is sweet.
