The Hermiston City Council approved a resolution to implement curbside recycling, including adoption of the new monthly service rate and a reduced low-income rate, during its meeting on Monday, November 24.

Under Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act passed by the Oregon Legislature in 2021, curbside recycling will be required for cities larger than 4,000 population beginning in 2026.

The Hermiston City Council has directed staff to compile $250,000 in spending cuts to General Fund departments for consideration at a future meeting in order to cover increased spending for public defense services and retain misdemeanor case jurisdiction within the Hermiston Municipal Court.

The Hermiston City Council voted 6-1 Monday, September 22 to approve the formation of a Local Improvement District (LID) to upgrade NW 2nd Street between W. Elm Avenue and W. Cherry Avenue, a key connector expected to see higher traffic volumes following upcoming changes at the Elm Avenue/Highway 395 intersection.
