Volunteer Police Reserve Officer
The City of Hermiston is currently accepting applications for the volunteer position of Reserve Police Officer.
Of the 28 sworn full-time police officers at the Hermiston Police Department (HPD), 36% are former HPD reserve officers and 61% are former reserve police officers. Historically HPD hires entry-level officers when full-time positions become available and having qualified and vetted reserve police officers are mission-critical especially where 32% of the current HPD officers are eligible for retirement in the next 3-7 years.
HPD Reserve Police Officers are volunteers, but they receive near-identical training as that of full-time officers. HPD reserve officers work in tandem with full-time officers to include patrol and investigations. Reserve officers also assist with community and school events such as National Night Out, community parades and other special events.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalency. A valid Oregon driver’s license and proof of an acceptable driving record.Must be 21 years at age of appointment. Additionally, reserve officers must undergo a psychological and medical evaluation (paid by the department).
