Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Positions - Seasonal Employment

The City of Hermiston is currently accepting applications for Seasonal Lifeguards and Swim Instructors.   Applicants must be 15 years of age or older.  These positions are seasonal, temporary positions requiring a varied work schedule based on program/event needs, including weekends & evenings.  Starting wage is $13.95 per hour.

These positions require a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, the City of Hermiston is unable to accept applications for the listed positions without having first obtained this certification.  

If you currently possess a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, please fill out an application and submit a copy of your certification.

If you DO NOT have a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, please fill out the Interest Form, a member of our team will reach out to you and schedule a Swim Test.  Once the swim test is completed successfully, you will be offered a FREE Lifeguard Certification Course, once certified you will be encouraged to apply for a position as a Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor.

Swim Test Requirements:

• ( SWIM-TREAD-SWIM) Swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. No time limit.

• Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.

• Swim 50 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. No time limit. 

• Swim 20 yards using freestyle or breaststroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick, swim 20 yards back with two hands on the brick keeping your face above water, and climb onto the pool deck within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Incumbents must have a proven background showing good work ethic, punctuality, reliable attendance and must work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.

• All open positions are seasonal, temporary positions requiring weekend and evening assignments.

• All positions are subject to perform additional duties as assigned.
