Assistant City Attorney - City Prosecutor
The City of Hermiston is accepting applications for the position of Assistant City Attorney – City Prosecutor. This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week.
The Assistant City Attorney position performs a variety of entry-level attorney duties, concentrating primarily on prosecution in municipal court of violations, misdemeanor cases and appeals of those cases to circuit court and may under general direction of the City Attorney, assist in providing professional legal services, research, advice, and preparation of legal documents for the City Council, Boards, Commissions, Committees City Manager, City Departments and City Staff. This position encounters a wide diversity of work situations involving a high degree of complexity due to various legal issues.
This position requires the incumbent to be a graduate from an accredited law school; with experience in the criminal law field preferred; Must be a member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar; The City will accept candidates for the position that are taking the Oregon State Bar exam or equivalent this year.
*The Oregon Supreme Court approved the Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination (SPPE) framework and accompanying rules on November 7, 2023. The SPPE will allow applicants to work in supervised apprenticeship settings following graduation from law school beginning May 15, 2024. Following completion of the established criteria applicants will submit a portfolio of work to be examined for admission to the Oregon State Bar.
