Cities of Hermiston and Umatilla Launch Broadband eCheckup to Assess Community Internet Needs

Hermiston Umatilla

Hermiston and Umatilla - The Cities of Hermiston and Umatilla announced today the launch of the Broadband eCheckup, a study that will assess the need for broadband infrastructure that could allow all households, businesses, and organizations to access reliable and competitive internet service.

Hermiston and Umatilla are working with Strategic Networks Group (SNG), a North American leader in building the business case for broadband investment and supporting communities through implementation, to gather community input through an internet needs study known as the Broadband eCheckup.

The study, aimed both at residents and business owners, takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and will help city leaders to better understand current internet access, service levels and future needs as they plan for faster and more reliable broadband service.

City-wide broadband infrastructure would enable internet service providers to expand services to currently underserved areas, improving economic opportunity, educational access and overall quality of life for residents and businesses across both communities.

City residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in the process by completing one of two online studys: the Household eCheckup or the Business eCheckup.

Residents with an active email address on file with the City received an email invitation to participate on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Those without a registered email address may participate by using the links available on the Hermiston and Umatilla city websites.

The Broadband eCheckup will be conducted over five weeks from January through February 2026. Updates and additional information will be posted regularly on city websites throughout the duration of the study.
