Traffic Violations
Most traffic and vehicle violations can be handled by the court clerk and do not require you to see a Judge. You can come to the court or contact the court PRIOR to the date/time of your scheduled appearance to resolve the matter. Most offenses do require you to appear before the Judge and cannot be handled by the court clerk.
If you received a citation for a traffic or vehicle violation from Hermiston Police Department, you have the following options:
Option 1: Enter a plea of no contest and pay the court the presumptive fine amount. (A plea of no contest means you are not going to contest or fight the allegation.)
Option 2: Contact the court regarding eligibility for:
- Traffic Safety Education Program (Diversion)
- Fixable Offenses/Compliance Program
- Distracted Driving Education Program (Fine Suspension for First Cell Phone Offense)
- Fine Reductions
The above options are dependent on the offense you have been charged with AND your driving record.
Option 3: Enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial. The trial will be scheduled several weeks after you enter your plea. The trial will be held with you and the Officer in front of the Judge.
